Windows Server 2012 installation problem

I'm trying to install ISAPI_rewrite 2.13 on Windows Server 2012. When I run the regmsg.vbs file I'm getting this error:

To forestall an obvious response, I should mention that I'm logged on as Administrator when I do this.

Annnd solved.

It looks like when you double-click the regmsg.vbs file in File Explorer, it doesn't actually run with Administrator permissions, even when you're logged in as Administrator. WS2012 is funny that way. I've been running into a number of situations setting up this machine where on earlier OS's like WS2008 just logging in as Administrator was all you needed to do to get the job done. But on WS2012, you often need to do something like opening up a command window that's explicitly running as Administrator, and do your work from there. Which was what it took to get the regmsg.vbs file to run successfully.

Same thing with Notepad. Trying to save changes to the hosts file, for example, while logged in as Administrator worked just fine in WS2008, but in WS2012 you need to open up a Notepad window that's explicitly running as Administrator.

So when I opened up an administrator command window and ran the vbs file from the command line it worked just fine.

This is how UAC works. It prevents admin actions unless you explicitly run the program "as administrator".

Do not use environment variables, in the path to the file, that cannot be expanded in the context of the event log service.
